Theives targeting vehicles

Police are warning vehicle owners that within the past couple of days, thieves have targeted several vehicles in the following streets:

  • Macquarie Street, Saint Lucia
  • Grimes Street, Auchenflower
  • Campbell Street, Toowong

The targeted vehicles were broken into during both the day and night.

At the time of the offences, the vehicles were located in underground garages, carparks or carports associated with residential unit blocks.

The offenders have used forceful means such as smashing windows or prying open doors to unlawfully enter the vehicles and steal property from within.

Police are urging vehicle owners to be vigilant and ensure their vehicles are always secure and not to openly display valuable items in their vehicles.

There are several things you can do to reduce the risk of having your vehicle broken into:

  • Always lock your vehicle, including your glove box
  • Remove valuable items
  • Park your vehicle in a well lit area
  • When parking in a garage or carport, ensure both the garage and your vehicle are locked and your garage remote is out of sight
  • Consider installing a car alarm

Police have increased patrols in the area and are conducting crime prevention activities.
