By now, you've probably heard the phrase, "lean in." It comes from the title of Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg's book, Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead and the namesake movement based around LeanIn.org. Much of the "lean in" movement's advice focused on how women can be self-directed feminists, and now Sheryl is encouraging women to turn to one another for inspiration, mentorship, and support. The #LeanInTogether campaign debuted this week, and it's not just about empowering yourself, but also empowering your peers through mentorship.

“Friendship is where you trust someone and confide in them and they can be there for the ups and downs of your life,” Sheryl told Time. “Mentorship is when you give advice and support and encouragement to go after something that you want to go after.”

Through mentorship, Sheryl argues, women can learn more about themselves as leaders, friends, and people. She told Time, “When women celebrate each other’s accomplishments, they’re seen as more professional and accomplished as well. So supporting other women helps each other, helps women as a group, and also helps the woman that does it.”

Next time you need advice on nabbing a magazine internship, ask the girl in your class who's already done one, and she'll ask you next time she needs advice on something you know by heart. Especially in entertainment or tech, which are male-dominated industries, women look to each other for guidance and support. Some of our favorite celebs, from Emma Watson to Selena Gomez, took to social media to thank the women who have mentored them over the years and show their solidarity with the hashtag #LeanInTogether.

Emma shared Sheryl's recent New York Times article about the "Myth of Catty Women," as well as the official campaign video featuring herself, Sheryl Sandberg, Selena Gomez, and Lena Dunham, among other inspiring women like tennis pro Serena Williams.

This idea extends well far beyond the entertainment industry. In many countries, women need other women to advocate for their basic rights. No one says it better than girls' education leader Malala Yousafzai, who thanked her mother via Twitter.
